Great news for The Legend of Zelda fans as Nintendo is reportedly working on a mobile version of the smash-hit gaming franchise, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The move hints at the gaming giant’s ambition to expand its mobile gaming lineup. The decision to launch a mobile version of the game comes after the success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on its switch console.

Nintendo is partnering with Japanese mobile gaming firm DeNA for the development of the game and will be released after the launch of Animal Crossing in the second half of 2017.

Super Mario Run is now available for on Android

The report does not offer any details on the new Zelda title, nor whether it will follow the one-time fee approach of Super Mario Run or the free-to-play model of Fire Emblem Heroes.

Last month, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said the company planned to release two to three new smartphone games in the financial year ending March 2018.

Nintendo's first smartphone game attracts over one million users

It took Nintendo a while to enter the mobile gaming industry. It was only last the company released its first smartphone game Miitomo — a free-to-play and interactive game which allows users to create “Mii” avatars —followed by Super Mario Run, an endless runner, and Fire Emblem Heroes, a tactical RPG title.
