LAHORE:
The city administration and police came together to discuss the revolutionary Local Eye software which would promote community policing and sensetise elected representatives. The moot was held at the Al Hamra Hall on Saturday and attended by Lord Mayor Colonel (Retd) Mubashir Javed, deputy mayors, union council chairpersons and vice chairpersons, CCPO Amin Wains, DIG Investigations Sultan Chaudhry, SSP Administration Rana Ayyaz Salim and all the divisional SPs.

Speaking on the occasion, the CCPO educated local representatives about the functions of Local Eye, the ways it can be operated and the benefits  that can be extracted.

He told the local government officials that they could contact the police from the comfort of their own homes and get an appointment to meet any police officer, including the CCPO, to discuss matters of contention. He said accessibility at just a click away would definitely help improve the coordination of the police with public.

He said another purpose of the software was to empower local representatives, “They can report any crime happening in their locality with just a single click and their name will be kept secret,” the CCPO stressed. He also sought their help in tenants’ registration.

SSP Admin Rana Ayyaz Salim said that help of local elected representatives to police can bring a steep decline in the crime rates of the city. He assured that the name would be kept secret as access to information was limited to him and CCPO alone.

Lord Mayor Colonel Mubashir appreciated the step of the Lahore Police to promote public-police interaction. He said that it was a unique example throughout the world and there was no parallel to match this app. Mubashir stressed that any suspicious person or activity happening in their locality of the local government officials must be reported.

The centralised computer operation room and the main database server of Local Eye was formally inaugurated at the Capital City Police Office in the second week of April. CCPO Amin Wains inaugurated the newly established Ops Room and Local Eye server. He said at the time that both projects were part of IT Policing.

Two years ago, the first-ever Ops Room in Lahore was set up at Model Town SP Office and was replicated at the SP City Office. He said at the time that the CCPO could now monitor all the activity and progress on a complaint or a case while sitting at his office.

Integrated with the Ops Room, the main server of Local Eye is meant to promoting easy communications between local body representatives and police. The LG representatives have been registered through the EMI numbers of their Android-based phones.

Lahore Police will provide this app to over 3,500 elected representatives. If the representative wanted to change his phone number, he or she would need to seek access to the new number after written intimation.

“The primary objective of the app is to implement the National Action Plan through the help of local representatives and instill a sense of empowerment among people. It will also ensure free interaction through technology,” SSP Admin Rana Ayyaz Salim told The Express Tribune.
