ISLAMABAD: Over 24-hours after police found the body of a youngster dumped on the banks of Korang Nullah, officials are yet to identify who the man was.

On Thursday afternoon, a passer-by had alerted police to the presence of a body near the Sharifabad locality near Koral.

Officials of the Homicide Investigation Unit said that the young man appeared to be aged around 19-20 years of age. They added that the body bore signs of injuries to his head and other parts of the body.

“It looks as if the man had been clubbed to death,” a police officer said.

Later, a post-mortem examination at the Polyclinic hospital also confirmed that the man had been tortured to death.

Apparently, the victim had been murdered the night before his body was spotted dumped by Korang Nullah.

However, with no identification documents found on the victim, police are struggling to identify who he was and where did he come from.

In this regard, police said they had obtained fingerprints of the victim and had dispatched them to National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The idea is to check whether any clues as to the identity of the youngster can be derived from the national database against matching prints.

However, a police official voiced his apprehension stating that NADRA would only be able to identify the young man if he had applied for a computerised identity card with registration body and updated his fingerprints.

“Since he appears to be around 19 years of age, we are not sure if NADRA would have his fingerprints,” an officer said sceptically.

Meanwhile, Islamabad Police opted to make announcements from loudspeakers of nearby mosques urging the public to come forward if they had any information about the identity of the man or had any clue as to what had happened to him. However, till the filing of this report, no one had come forward with any information.

Earlier in April, the body of a young man, believed to be murdered, was found stashed in a gunny bag and dumped in Sector I-11.

Police officials told The Express Tribune that they had received information from locals on Thursday evening about the presence of a suspicious gunny bag dumped at a desolate spot in Sector I-11-2. When a police squad examined the bag, they found the body of the young man.

The victim, a police official said, appeared to be around 26-years-of-age and had a clothing drawstring wrapped around his neck – which appeared to have been used to strangle the victim.
