Flood operations: Rescue 1122 now gets sonar
inclusion of modern technology to the fleet of Rescue Service would enhance operational performance

Minister for Disaster Management Maher Ijaz Achlana handed over sonar to Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer. The provincial minister said sonar was a technique that uses sound propagation to navigate, communicate with or detect objects on or under the surface of water during the flood situation and helps in the process of rescue, relief and recovery. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Mudassar Waheed was also present on the occasion.

Thanking the provincial minister, Dr Rizwan said sonar would assist water rescue teams in boat operations during floods. He said all the district emergency officers have been directed to ensure preparedness and remain ready to respond at a single call of flood. He said inclusion of modern technology to the fleet of Rescue Service would enhance operational performance of the district emergency services. He further said sonar device would be placed in South Punjab especially in Multan and shall be utilised wherever required during floods.
