LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday adjourned till April 18 the hearing of a petition against the Punjab government for not approving a 50 per cent raise in the basic pays of the High Court employees.

Earlier, Asim Imdad, the additional finance secretary, appeared in the court of Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed and sought time to file a reply.

The court accepted his request and adjourned the petition till April 18. The petition was filed by Riaz Ali Zaidi, an LHC additional registrar.

He said that the basic salaries of government employees had been raised by 50 per cent in the federal budget for 2010-11. He said the Law Ministry had issued a notification in this regard after directions from the prime minster.

The petitioner pointed out that all the provincial governments except Punjab had implemented the orders and raised the salaries in the high courts. He regretted that the Punjab government had not paid any heed to the notification despite repeated reminders.
