German companies express interest in CPEC projects

Seek list of Pakistani companies for stepping up cooperation

FRANKFURT: The strong resolve of the Pakistani and Chinese leadership to implement the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) programme is also sparking interest among other countries in the investment opportunities available in Pakistan.

German companies have expressed interest in pouring capital into various CPEC projects and in the country’s special economic zones.



The Munich Chamber of Commerce has asked for the list of Pakistani companies so that cooperation with them could be increased and the opportunities for investment in joint ventures can be explored.

Nadeem Ahmed, Pakistan’s Consul General, told The Express Tribune that German authorities and private companies were interested in CPEC.

He said the Pakistani embassy was spreading awareness among the private sector and investors about investment opportunities, especially the economic and social benefits of CPEC.

Ahmed said the Chinese investment would play an important role in stabilising Pakistan’s economic development.

The Chinese have expressed their resolve to complete the CPEC project at all cost and have emphasised upon German companies to collaborate with Pakistan in ongoing projects in the sectors of power, infrastructure and technology.

According to Ahmed, the response from Chinese diplomatic sources has increased German interest in CPEC projects.

Replying to a question about tension with India and Pak-German relations, Ahmed said Pakistan was maintaining its dignified status in the international community despite negative propaganda by India.

Pakistan’s economic, defence and diplomatic relations with Germany were growing stronger and Ahmed suggested that the country should take advantage of German skills and technology.



He said there were unlimited opportunities for cooperation and joint investment between Pakistan and Germany in various fields including IT, automobiles, transportation, infrastructure, construction, agri-technology, power and chemicals. (TRANSLATED BY ARSHAD SHAHEEN)
