LAHORE:
A report detailing the works, struggle, achievements and life of public school teachers in Punjab was launched by the Pakistan Education Specialists Group (PESG) and the British Council on Tuesday.

The report, titled Great Teachers in Punjab: Who They Are and Why They Teach, profiled 20 brilliant government school teachers in the provincial school system. From all parts of the province, it selected teachers who were working in the public sector and represented diversity in the teaching profession.

A teacher, Abdul Lateef Khan, had delivered excellent results despite being at an under-resourced school which functioned through a multi-grade classroom. Another teacher, Najma Basharat had worked to ease community tensions between Pakhtun and Punjabi residents in her locality by making sure the school was welcoming to the influx of internal migrants.

Another story was of Mubasher Khaleeq, a schoolteacher from Bhawalpur. He fumigated all the classrooms in his school when he learnt that worms in children could affect the brain functionality of children and affect learning.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab School Education Minister Rana Mashhood said great teachers perform even when they don’t get recognition because they are answering to a sense of mission, but that stoicism should not be an excuse to be complacent in richly acknowledging teachers’ invaluable service to society.
