SC judge calls for just punishments

Says it is unfair to sentence innocent people

LAHORE: It is unfair to punish someone for the crime he hasn’t committed, said SC Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Saturday.

He was speaking at the judicial conference on mental health organised by the Justice Project Pakistan (JPP), in collaboration with the Lahore High Court and the Punjab Judicial Academy.

Commenting on the role of social activists, Umar said they could inform the judiciary on matters of mental health to assist litigation.

LHC Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh presided over the conference.

He said difficulties faced by people with mental health problems during trial have come to the fore.
