Awareness seminar: ‘Govt should devise strategy to alleviate poverty’

FAISALABAD: In a bid to alleviate poverty, the government should devise an effective strategy with long-term solutions and address the problems being faced by the farming community.

This was said by experts at a research project seminar which was held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Friday. UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan chaired the session.

The vice-chancellor said, “Farmers are confronting a string of problems for which we have to pace up efforts by creating awareness among rural population regarding modern trends in agriculture.”

He voiced concern that major crops had been facing stagnation for the last two decades. He added, “With increasing population and diminishing agricultural land, we have to increase the per acre production.”

He maintained the government was taking tangible steps to make agriculture a profitable sector.
