LAHORE: The University of Management and Technology (UMT) held a press conference on Friday about the fake degree unearthed by the varsity during the admission process.

Talking to the media persons, UMT Rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad gave details of how the forgery was detected. “UMT has established a fast, secure, automated and reliable system that verifies degrees, certificates, and qualifications of students as well as employees prior to making them a part of UMT community,” he said.

He said strong safeguards were needed at universities to detect such scams. “All the institutions of higher education should set up a mechanism for genuine enquiries so that fake degree holders are not able to infiltrate the system,” he advised educational institutions.

He said students needed genuine and powerful degrees achieved through hard work, grounded in real learning, and in-depth research.

“Parents should be careful from the widespread fraudulence exercised by some elements who are involved in the heinous crime of creating fake degrees and minting money,” he remarked.

“Fake degree holders are jeopardising their future and they can never make a difference in life by taking shortcuts to success, which cannot take place shape without formal education and developing critical thinking skills,” he concluded.
