Up in arms: Chak Jhumra villagers protest killing of man in police custody
Wali was picked up by police for forcibly entering house of his neighbour

Scores of villagers staged a demonstration in front of Zila Council Complex against torturing to death a man allegedly by the police in Chak Jhumra, Faisalabad on Thursday.
The protesters shouted slogans against the police and demanded of the authorities to arrest those police personnel who were responsible for the death. While speaking to The Express tribune, one of the protesters Muhammad Jameel said Wali Muhammad was taken into custody by officials of Chak Jhumra police station on charges of forcibly entering the house of his neighbour on the instructions of Union Council Chairperson Rana Muhammad Azam.
He added, “Wali Muhammad was severely beaten and tortured by the police due to which he fell unconscious.” He maintained, “As his condition deteriorated, ASI Ashiq Ali shifted him to his home.”

Meanwhile, a police team, held negotiations with the demonstrators and assured them that action would be taken against the responsible policemen. On the other hand, Chak Jhumra Police Station SHO Iftikhar Ahmad said, “If charges of maltreatment and torture are established in the postmortem report, we will register the case against the police officials responsible for torture,” he said.
