SARGODHA: Around Rs5 billion will be added to the budget of the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) from July 1, bringing the total volume of scholarships to Rs23 billion.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced this on Saturday while addressing an awareness programme on PEEF at the University of Sargodha.

“This fund is like a tree for hard working and deserving students and under its shadow, they are materialising their dreams,” he said. “The PEEF is a sacred mission, which has been benefiting hundreds of scholars.”

“Free education, health and provision of residential facilities are the responsibility of every state and we are following the policies to make this country a welfare state,” he added. “The PEEF is a milestone beginning of this welfare state concept, and it is a unique project for which, even the budget of the entire country is insufficient.”
