The different languages of the country and associated literature can be exploited for promoting national cohesion and for reforming the society in line with human values and traditions. This was suggested by intellectuals and academicians during the inaugural session of a two-day national conference on Pakistani languages and literate organised by the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Department of Pakistani languages on Friday. Those who spoke on the occasion included Iftikhar Arif, Sajid Mir, Khurshid Nadeem, Haris Khaleeq and AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui. They were of the view that regional languages could be one of the most effective tools to project sentiments of love, harmony and unity among various segments of the society. Dr Siddiqui announced that the varsity will soon publish a research journal on Pakistani languages and literature in regional languages.
