Poland backs India’s NSG, UNSC bid

Polish PM extended his country’s support in a meeting with Indian Vice President in Warsaw

Poland on Thursday extended India support in its bid for membership to the Nuclear Suppliers Group and backed it for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

Polish Prime Minister Beata Syzdalo extended his country’s support in a meeting with Indian Vice President in Warsaw, reported The Times of India.

The Indian Vice President thanked the polish premier for his country’s support saying, "We are happy to have Poland's support for India's claim for permanent membership of an expanded UN security council."



The NSG is dedicated to curbing nuclear arms proliferation by controlling the export and re-transfer of materials that could foster nuclear weapons development of which Poland is a member.

India has been vying for a membership of the exclusive group; however, it has failed to garner enough support to book a birth in the group.

One the other hand, Pakistan emphasises the need to take a criteria based approach if any new member wants to join the Nuclear Supplies Group.
