CEO at Mahvish Hasan Salon, and her sister Aminah Tariq, tell us all about the bond they share
Mahvish Hasan, CEO at Mahvish Hasan Salon, and her sister Aminah Tariq, blogger at Amo and the City as well as make-up artist at Mahvish Hasan Salon, tell us all about the bond they share! From sneaking out late at night to grab dessert, to sharing mutual love for food and fashion, to counting on each other for just about anything — they talk about it all!
What is your first memory of each other?
Mahvish: My first ever memory of her is when she was a baby; I hid her under the bed and replaced her with a doll only to give my mother some rest.
Aminah: My first memory of her is when she surprised me with rabbits on my sixth birthday. She had to hide them in her bathroom for an entire week, just so our mother wouldn’t find out!
What is the craziest thing you have done together?
Mahvish: When we sneaked the car out late at night to grab a bite of dessert.
Aminah: When I was 13 years old, I had her give me a haircut at 3am just because we were bored.
What did you get punished for the most as a child?
Mahvish: For not studying.
Aminah: For missing school — I always overslept.
If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be?
Mahvish: I love her collection of scarves. The Hermès one she has is my favourite.
Aminah: I love her collection of shoes! But currently I have my eyes on her sleek, black dress that somehow makes me look super-thin.
If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do?
Mahvish: I would stop procrastinating.
Aminah: I would reorganise her phone. All the apps, the contacts and the photos!
What is the one thing you love about your sister?
Mahvish: I love how she’s always there for me. She has a positive energy that always lightens up the room and I admire her for it.
Aminah: She never says no to me. Anytime I’ve asked her for anything, she always says yes.
If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?
Mahvish: She knows I have the biggest sweet tooth, so she sends over dessert, which instantly resolves our fight.
Aminah: I’m usually the first one to apologise so I bombard her with emotional messages, which leaves her with no option but to reply!
What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you had too?
Mahvish: She sings really well.
Aminah: She is a pro at detecting liars! Sometimes it amazes me how she can always tell who is lying.
Describe your sister in three words:
Mahvish: Forgiving, optimistic and exuberant.
Aminah: Generous, passionate and an excellent multi-tasker. Whether it’s work or her personal life she always manages to keep a good balance.
Which fictional character is your sister most like?
Mahvish: Just like Cinderella she is also a daydreamer.
Aminah: She reminds me of Anne Hathaway’s character, Jules Ostin, from The Intern.
How are your personalities similar?
Mahvish: We think alike in most situations.
Aminah: We have the same taste in most things like fashion and food. Our concept of fun is also very similar.
I can’t live without my sister because…
Mahvish: We are like a jigsaw puzzle, always completing each other’s sentences and thoughts.
Aminah: She is my go-to person for advice on anything, so I can’t really function without her.
