ISLAMABAD: Police on Wednesday arrested two men suspected to be involved in a murder. Separately, two men extorting transporters were also arrested, a police official said.

Said Muhammad, a vendor and a resident of Pind Paracha, had been strangled to death by unidentified men in the Golra area of the capital on December 30, 2016, a police spokesperson said.

Police subsequently registered a case on the complaint of Muhammad’s brother Izatullah and launched an investigation.

A five-member police investigation team, headed by Homicide Unit Inspector Fiaz Shanwari, was formed including Sub-Inspector Afzal Kilyar, ASI Muhammad Asif, Head Constable Khaista Khan and Constable Ahmed Raza.

The team managed to arrest two suspects in the case, Ayaz Ali and Ishaq, nearly four months after the crime was committed.

Further investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, another team of the Investigation Unit apprehend two alleged extortionists, identified as Iftikhar and Gul Khan.

Locals had complained to Islamabad SSP Sajid Kiani that two people are involved in extorting money from transporters at Chungi 26.

Subsequently, the police team managed to apprehend the suspects red handed.

SSP Kiani has urged citizens to cooperate with police and to inform him about criminal activities in the city through social media.
