LAKKI MARWAT:
The electricity system for the southern districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa should be brought under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project so as to benefit the people of these under developed areas.

“The southern districts have been ignored by every government,” former federal minister Salim Saifullah Khan said suggesting that the entire electricity system of the southern districts may be undertaken under the CPEC project.

CPEC portfolio keeps increasing, but does it really add value?

Talking to delegations of tribal elders on Monday, the political stalwart said the move would provide an opportunity to the entire stretch of southern K-P to get maximum benefit from the development initiatives of the mega scheme.

He was of the view that currently the entire power transmission system had gone out-dated, causing frequent tripping and losses for national kitty and had exposed people of those areas to extended power outages.

Moreover, he added, with construction of CPEC, people of the area would have access to modern facilities of life, in addition to having vast opportunities to get jobs to earn livelihood in a respectable manner.

He also expressed the hope that Kurram-Tangi dam would herald green revolution in the area for irrigating vast area of southern districts for agriculture purpose.

He said among other districts of the K-P, Lakki Marwat was facing poverty and unemployment despite the fact youth of the area were gifted with excellent talent, therefore, he added, there was a need to create job opportunities for them to earn livelihood and contribute towards the country’s socio-economic development process.
