The World Photography Organisation announced Sony World Photography Awards 2017 last week in a ceremony in London.
Pakistani photographer Shabir Mian's photograph was selected as the best single image in the National Awards category that features photographs taken by local photographers in 66 countries.

The image captures a young boy holding an umbrella and walking down a railway track, clutching a book in his arms.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Shabir said when he saw the boy walking down the railway track with casual ease while it poured, seemingly unaware of the danger of the trains; he was inspired to capture the subtle fearlessness in the scene.
On being honoured by the World Photography Organisation, the photographer said it was a memorable moment. “It is my first international award,” he said. “I am thankful to God and the organisation for recognising my work.”
The image will be showcased at the Somerset House exhibit from April 21 until May 7, 2017.
Sanwal Deen's image of a woman lying sideways on the bed, smoking grabbed the second place in the competition while Muaz Asim secured third place with a photograph of a young girl staring into the camera while playing with her hair.

Winners of National Awards receive Sony digital imaging equipment to encourage photographers to continue their journey. A number of winners are invited to attend the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony in London and given a chance to witness their work exhibit at the prestigious Somerset House.
