Slain policemen: Compensation distributed among families

Chief Minister Mehdi Shah on Monday distributed compensation cheques of Rs3 million each among the heirs of three policemen killed in the line of duty, while 12 of their relatives were offered appointment letters in the force.
The increased compensation package for policemen was given under the prime minister package that applies to those who gave their lives while in duty.
Addressing the ceremony in Gilgit, the chief minister said that a system of justice would be implemented in the region, adding that the supremacy of law would be ensured at all cost. He urged the police department to play an effective role in maintaining law and order. He warned of stringent measures against police not performing their duties with honesty and professional commitment.
