First rain adds to the beauty of spring

Light thunderstorm that cackled on Sunday night culminates into light showers early Monday.

ISLAMABAD:

The light thunderstorm that cackled on Sunday night culminated into light showers early Monday, bringing much relief to the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. With summer right around the corner, the mercury had shot up considerably over the past several days, with some complaining of uneven changes in weather conditions that experts attributed to global warming.

DG Met office Arif Mehmood said the present rain spell would end Monday evening, but slight shower would continue in Murree and other hilly areas. He also expressed optimism about the rain decreasing allergic pollen in Islamabad, which stood at 16,000 per cubic meter on Sunday and reduced to 10,244 per cubic meter the following day. It is expected that people with cough and flu will experience some relief.

The weather remained dry in most parts of the country, but isolated rain and dust-thunderstorm occurred in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir on Sunday. The Met office forcast a similar weather pattern in these areas for the next few days.

According to a press release, the temperature recorded in the main cities of Pakistan were as follows: Islamabad, 17 C min and 22 max, with 6.2 mm rain. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Kalam at 01 C and highest maximum at Nawabshah at 42 C.
