RAWALPINDI: A tragedy was averted after police on Saturday recovered a hand grenade near a government-run school in Rawalpindi.

According to available information, some children were playing near Federal Government (FG) Boys Technical School located on Indus Road in the Lalkurti area when they spotted the hand-grenade.

The children promptly informed a military officer who was passing through the area about their discovery. The official contacted Rescue 15 and lodged a complaint.

A police team headed by Civil Lines SHO Mian Imran Abbas rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

After examining the object, the police called the Bomb Disposal Squad.

BDS experts examined the grenade declared that it was just an empty shell. They subsequently confiscated the grenade.

Thereafter, police started an investigation to ascertain as to who had dumped the shell there.
