Marvel fires artist over 'anti-Semitic references' in X-Men comic

An Indonesian Muslim comic artist, who had sparked controversy after hidden anti-Semitic references in an X-Men comic, has been terminated by Marvel Comics, reported Al Jazeera.
Ardian Syaf inserted pro-Islam and anti-Semitic references into X-Men Gold's first issue.
The references related to religious and political issues surrounding Indonesia’s recent elections.

Syaf gave a statement concerning the artwork on his Facebook page.
“The meaning behind the numbers; perhaps some will understand them. If they don’t that’s okay,” he wrote. “You can comment on it because it’s something I can’t control. My advice is, although you disagree with me, please say it in a polite way.”

Syaf was criticised heavily on social media, saying what he did was ‘unprofessional’ and contrary to X-men’s message of tolerance and inclusiveness.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Syaf said he had no regrets, even if the move jeopardised his career.
