Three-day event: 500 students face off in extracurricular competitions

Participants from different schools, colleges and universities take part.

LAHORE: Students from schools, colleges and universities from across the country came together at the Punjab University to go head to head for The Educationist All Pakistan Co-Curricular Competitions 2017.

The three-day competition started on Monday at the Punjab University Institute of Education and Research (IER) with recitation from the holy Quran while English and Urdu debates competitions were  on the first day.

The competitions were jointly organised by Punjab University, Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and The Educationist.

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said: “Young students will play an important role in future for the country and it is necessary to polish their hidden talent for the development of the country.”

On the first day of the event, the competitions of Qiraat, Naat and Debates were held where more than 312 participants from different schools, colleges and universities participated.



Over 500 participants from different schools, colleges and universities are participating in the event, which will continue till Thursday, April 20 at the Punjab University. The prize distribution ceremony will be held on April 21.

During the three days of the event, the competition will host Qiraat, Naat, Debates, Theater/Drama, National Songs, Poetry and Essay Writing contests.

All competitions had been separately organised for school students and separate competitions for students of colleges and universities.

Total prize money of Rs100,000 for winners and Rs50,000 will be awarded during the prize distribution ceremony.

Dr Zafar said that PU administration was extending full support for promotion of co-curricular activities and providing excellent opportunities to students where they could express their abilities.

He said: “The creative skills of students must be appreciated and encouraged because our youth is going to play important role for the development of the country.”

The Educationist Editor and Event Organiser Shabbir Sarwar said the basic purpose of the competition was to provide a venue to students to showcase their talents to the world.

He said the schools and college students were also made part of the event so that schoolchildren could see the atmosphere of a university and how varsity students compete in such events.

The benefit of this was that they could benefit from the experience, he said, adding that people from all provinces were part of the competition, which also benefited them as it was an opportunity to learn.

IER Director Prof Dr Rifaqat Ali Akbar, Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) Principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, The Educationist Editor Shabbir Sarwar, faculty members and a large number of competitors from all over Pakistan were present .
