
He was speaking during the welcoming address of a two-day international conference on ‘Social Sciences in Service of Humanity’ jointly organised by the UOL, Sargodha Campus and the UOL Lahore School of Integrated Social Sciences.
Around 82 social sciences scholars from more than 40 universities of Pakistan, Nepal, Malaysia, the US, Indonesia and Australia participated in the conference and papers were presented on 24 sub-themes.

Dr Rifaat Hussain, a teacher at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), delivered the inaugural keynote speech, speaking about the philosophy of social science research.
He sought urgent attention to re-humanise social sciences as it was the need of the hour to deal with the challenges of the modern world and provide solutions for peaceful co-existence.
The conference was divided into three plenary sessions. On the first day, 14 speakers shared their research perspectives under the themes of Challenges to Regional Peace and Stability, Challenges to Democratic Governance and South Asian Strategic Stability.
Around 12 parallel sessions were run on the second day of the conference in which 68 speakers presented their research on different themes ranging from fender, equality and equity, economic growth and poverty eradication, democracy and accountability, strategies to counter terrorism, role of religion in shaping Pakistani society and role of language and literature in promotion of peace and tolerance to name a few.
The conference was widely attended by a number of scholars, academicians, researchers and students.
