‘Build capacity of students to tackle disasters’
The HEC chief called for filling the gap between theory and practice in disaster management
Universities must start short programmes for students to build their capacities to manage both natural and artificial disasters at the domestic and national level.
This was stated by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed during a ceremony to launch a book on disaster management, “Taming Disasters” by Asrar Ayub at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Thursday. The launch was organised by the Department of Governance and Public Policy (G&PP)
The HEC chief called for filling the gap between theory and practice in disaster management and stressed the need to generate more local knowledge and literature on disaster governance.
He urged universities to start short programmes for students to build their capacities to manage both, natural and artificial disasters at the domestic and national level. Ayub, stressed on the need to introduce school safety programmes at the university and college levels.
