ISLAMABAD:

When it comes to abstract impressionism, there is one name that shines over the art industry in Pakistan: Mashkoor Raza.

Perfect adornment for any setting, be it casual or formal, Raza’s work is worth housing.

Although variations from his previous work have been made, Raza’s latest collection at Tanzara Art Gallery resonates with his trademark style.

The mark of a great artist is not how many different subject matters they can paint with skill, but how much variation they can put into the same subject matter.

Just as the principle works for fashion designers, artists also should be recognised immediately by their work. Raza has achieved this through evolving by experimentation spanning over 30 years.

Known for his trademark abstract horses and figurines of women, Raza again brings a different colour palate and flavour to his work. “The horse stands for power and the woman symbolises beauty.

Merged together, they produce a very powerful yet beautiful image,” explained Raza.

With a profound sense of impressionist work infused with abstract imagery, Raza’s skill has made a distinct mark upon the art community. In Pakistan, collectors who already house his work almost literally itch for more.

“The fantastic exhibit is a true pleasure to behold. I am a huge fan of his work and so happy that he brought it to Islamabad,” said Tommy, a housewife.

With his colour palate ranging between hues of reds and oranges all the way down to the earthy browns and beiges, the collection is tied together by the concept and not the choice of colour made by the artist.

With the entire collection almost sold out on the eve of the exhibit’s opening on Thursday, Islamabad welcomed Raza in style and reverence of his work. The exhibition will continue till April 2.
