A heroic dog thwarted an attempt by a teenage suicide bomber in Nigeria, saving dozens of lives in the process.

The suicide bomber attempted to detonate a bomb at a wedding ceremony but the dog arrived to save the day.

The dog, who belonged to a guest at a wedding, fought with the bomber, who was described as a female in her teens.

Her explosives detonated, killing her and dog but saving several human lives, as confirmed by Nigeria police spokesperson in Borno to local media.

Buba Ahmed, who lives in the area, told the Associated Press that the "guests are grateful that the dog sacrificed itself to save their lives."

This incident occurred only a few hours after two other suicide attack plans were foiled in the region of northeastern Nigeria.

Boko Haram has been using young girls to carry out suicide bomb attacks. While the militant group has been driven out of most towns and villages in the region, they are still attacking soft targets.

In January, a female bomber with a baby strapped to her back used the infant as a decoy before detonating her explosives, killing several people.
