ISLAMABAD:
The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), headless since December, is likely to get a new director general by next week.

The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Parliamentary Secretary Maiza Hameed on Wednesday said that a new director general for the directorate would be appointed next week.

Speaking to the media, she said interviews of candidates for the slot were in final stages, adding that so far three candidates had been shortlisted for the hot seat.

Talking about the Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme, she said that the next phase of the project is expected to start in the current month.


She explained that Rs1 billion had been released for the second phase of the project out of the Rs2 billion allocated.

The parliamentary secretary said that higher authorities would conduct surprise visits to public schools to check the performance of teachers.

Moreover, she said that a nutrition programme for children was being launched under which milk and biscuits would be provided to Montessori classes.
