Interior minister says no one will be allowed to misuse social media

The government is committed to dealing with blasphemous content on social media, Chaudhry Nisar said on Tuesday.
Talking to a 25-member delegation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Samiul-Haq group), the interior minister expressed the government’s resolve to not allow anyone to misuse the social media platform.
He added that steps were being taken to stop such activities in the country.
The minister said that Pakistan has raised the blasphemous content issue with other Muslim countries and it desires to adopt a joint strategy against this nefarious design.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that sacrilege of religious figures will not be allowed in the name of freedom of expression in the country. He said the presence of blasphemous content on social media is a common issue of Muslims and Pakistan is trying to get Muslim word to unite to raise its voice over the issue.

The interior minister stated that Pakistan was committed to raising its voice on every available forum of the world and to take the issue of sacrilegious content on social media to a logical end.
He said the respect for freedom of expression has its own place but no double standards will be acceptable in this context.
The delegation discussed measures taken by the government to control and remove blasphemous content from social media.
It lauded the efforts of the interior minister for calling a meeting of the ambassadors of Muslim countries on the issue besides taking up the matter on the platforms of United Nations and Arab League.
The members of the delegation said that the way social media was used to broadcast sacrilegious content hurts feelings of the Muslims.
Earlier envoys of the Muslim countries on March 24 developed consensus to raise voice of entire Muslim world against the blasphemous content on the internet on international forums, including UN.
