A Pakistani-American effectively shut down an internet troll out to malign Islam and its followers with a much-needed history lesson.

A white supremacist sent a direct Twitter message to Washington DC-based lawyer Qasim Rashid wondering why you don't see non-Muslim versions of terror groups in the world.

"Where is the Christian version of ISIS and every other religion then?" the troll asked.

Not to be easily provoked, Rashid responded with a list of atrocities committed in the world by Christian extremists.

The impromptu history lesson went viral on the social network with many people lauding Rashid for setting the white supremacist straight and urging the need for introspection.

A Christian religious leader also gave his nod of approval.

The post has been retweeted around 48,000 times. Prominent Iranian-American author Reza Aslan also plugged it.

It seems the troll sure learnt his lesson.
