Sindh culture dept to host International Sufi Conference in May

30 scholars from around the world to attend event

KARACHI:
The provincial culture department will be hosting the third International Sufi Conference in the first week of May at Beach Luxury hotel in Karachi.

Thirty scholars, including 15 from outside of Pakistan, will be taking part in the two-day conference. The scholars are coming in from United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Switzerland, Turkey and India. The Sindh culture department had initially called for papers and received 20 abstracts, out of which 14 were short-listed.


Sindh govt wants to create cultural, educational hub in Karachi

The conference is being organised with the aim to highlight the debate on Sufism, besides negating extremism and terrorism within Pakistan as well as at the global level. Papers on Sikhism founder Guru Nanak, Hindu mystic poet Kabir and roots of African Sufism will be read at the conference. The main focus of the scholars will be on discussing the concept of Sufism.

A Sufi musical evening will also be held at the end of the two-day conference for all the delegates and they will also visit Bhit Shah. University students from across Pakistan have been invited to attend the international conference.
