LHC upholds 3 year sentence against Malik

LAHORE:
A division bench of the Lahore High Court dismissed Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s appeal against his conviction in two references by the Accountability Court on Monday.

The Accountability Court had sentenced Malik to prison for three years each in two corruption cases made by NAB.

Malik’s counsel pleaded that no notice was sent to Malik to appear in the accountability courts during the trial, and any verdict given in his absence was illegal. Malik’s counsel prayed that the court should halt any punishment orders against him.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif and Justice Waqar Hassan Mir heard the case.

Legal experts say that Malik is a court absconder and can be arrested at any time.
