Intel launches second generation of processors

New technology to enhance performance, save power.

KARACHI:

Intel has launched the second generation of its core family of processors. Talking to The Express Tribune, Intel Country Manager for Pakistan Naveed Siraj mentioned, “Nearly a third of our revenue this year will come from the new second generation of processors and a majority of the revenue at the end of the financial year will come from new technologies.”

Siraj explained this processor would allow for cheaper computers, as users would not have to buy expensive graphics adapters, allowing them to upgrade other components instead.

Presenting details of the Wipro-enabled processors, he said the product was likely to benefit all consumers, as it would allow users to remotely manage assets and secure them.

In contrast to the previous generation, there will be a marked increase in performance, which will come from the new microprocessor architecture which uses 32-nanometer process technology.

“If you have a processor-hungry application, on completion of the task, the processor will bring the cores down to a near-idle state, thereby reducing power consumption significantly. This presents a welcome contrast to processors of the past, where the CPU was running at clock speed throughout,” he added.
