Pricey commodity: Tomato rates jump on supply woes
The shortage is likely to push the prices to unprecedented levels during the current week

Tomato has become a scarce commodity in the markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to which the price of this essential ingredient of local dishes has increased manifold. From housewives to hoteliers and roadside cooks, people are fuming over the hot rates of red delight. The shortage was likely to push the prices to unprecedented levels during the current week. Though tomatoes have been officially notified at Rs72 to Rs106 per kilogramme according to Market Committee, it was being sold at Rs180 per kg in many areas of the federal capital. A vegetable trader at Aabpara Market said that the price of tomatoes was high for last 10 to 15 days due to shortage.
