ITP launches number plate awareness drive
Police issue warning slips to motorists and motorcyclists using ‘applied for’, fancy and improper number plates
ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad Traffic Police launched a 15-day awareness drive about the use of improper vehicle registration number plates, on Sunday.
Following the directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, police have started issuing warning slips to motorists and motorcyclists using ‘applied for’, fancy and improper number plates.
An ITP spokesperson said that only number plates issued by the excise departments would be considered legal and action would be taken against those using any other number plate.
On Saturday, the interior minister took notice of the increasing use of ‘applied for’ number plates and ordered authorities to look into this practice since it could create a security risk. The police have requested the public to only use the number plates issued by the excise office.
