The rights of children should be protected in Muslim societies.

This was stated by International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) President Professor Dr Ahmad Yousif Ahmad Al-Draiweesh during a one-day seminar on “Rights of Child in Islam”. The seminar had been organised by the Shariah Academy of IIUI in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

“Islam cares about childhood and Muslims regard children as gifts, trust,” Al-Draiweesh said, adding that parents would be held responsible for this trust on the Day of Judgment.

His comments come weeks after at least two child maids were recovered from the capital after their employers physically abused them.

Al-Draiweesh emphasised that rights of children should be protected in the Muslim societies.

He pointed out that this is why Islam paid particular attention to the rights of children and to the proper manner to raise them so that they would be equipped to face the difficulties of life.

“We must pay more attention to the best interests of the children,” Al-Draiweesh added.
