KARACHI: The district Road Transport Association (RTA) was put on notice on Thursday by the Sindh High Court in a petition filed by the four-stroke Rickshaw Owners Association.

Qurban Ali and six others moved the petition, maintaining that they were operating rickshaws on link roads where no commercial buses or coaches operate. They added that they are providing services to a small population otherwise women and elderly will have to travel on foot. The petitioners cited the RTA as a respondent and said that the government and the RTA decided to register four-stroke rickshaws and to issue route permits for short distances but failed to take further action.

The hearing was then adjourned to a date to be decided later by the court office.
