The working conditions of child labour at homes remains opaque and many cases of physical, mental and sexual abuse go unreported. These were the views expressed by the penalists at a dialogue on domestic child labour organized by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Agahi (ITA) and ASER Pakistan on Friday. Various government and civil society representatives, and young scholars participated in the dialogue meant to reflect upon the future of children forced into slavery instead of attending school. It was difficult to monitor or regulate the types of tasks the children were performing, or their working conditions and treatment. The panel observed that the Employment of Children act, 1991 had no clause for the protection of these exploited children. Similarly, the most recently passed Punjab Restriction of Children Employment Act also did not provide the child labourers any means to seek social or legal help.
