LAHORE: The Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) announced results for Grade-5 and Grade-8, handing out prizes to the position holders on Friday. Grade-5 had a success rate of 82.7%, while 83.08% passed from Grade-8.
In both exams, public schools, showed better results than private schools. According to the pass percentage declared by PEC for Grade-5, 84.54% of students passed at public schools, while the percentage for private schools stood at 80.47%. Similarly, the success rate for Grade-8 was 84.8% for public schools and 81.78% for private institutes.
During the ceremony, Punjab School Education Minister Rana Mashhood, Punjab School Education Department (SED) Secretary Abdul Jabbar Shaheen and other staffers, along with teachers, parents and students were present.
Nida Kanwal was clinched first place, Malaika Zafar secured second position and Aneela Mukhtar took third position in the Grade-5 annual examination. Rushan Zahra Rizvi secured first position, Muhammad Maaz Khan second and Ayesha Nawaz third position for the Grade-8 exam.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana Mashhood said these results were proof of the reforms in the education sector by the Punjab government. He pointed out that the bulk of reforms were in the education sector. Later, he distributed medals and cash prizes among the position holders.
A total of 1.358 million students were registered for the Grade-5 exams, while a total of 1.039 million registered for Grade-8. For Grade-5, a total of 6,754 examination centers were setup and for Grade-8 saw 5,965 centers. A total of 715 staffers were deployed for the marking of each of the examination.
