As part of the Green Pakistan initiative, the 422 public sector schools the capital would be turned into ‘Green Schools’. The drive was formally kicked off on Thursday after over 100 saplings were planted at the Government Boys Schools in sector G-7/3 and the Government Girls High School in Sector G-7/4 by Deputy Mayor Zeeshan Naqvi. A nation-wide tree plantation drive had been simultaneously launched in all provinces, as well as Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) in February.  Under the campaign, 257 million trees, mostly local and indigenous tree species, would be planted across Pakistan. Elaborated that PYCN and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) were facilitating this initiative, SDPI member Moazam Bhutti said that in the future trees would help mitigate the impact of climate change and global warming.
