LAHORE: A man was sentenced to death for killing his sister-in-law after she tried to subdue a scuffle between the accused and her husband over a domestic issue. An additional district and sessions judge handed down the death sentence to Amanat Ali and ordered him to Rs.200,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of Nazia Perveen. Amanat Ali recorded his statement, claiming he had no connection with the case. “I have been made a scapegoat by the complainant in connivance with the local police. We are three brothers, Karamat, Niamat and myself. There was a dispute between my brothers as Karamat planned to start a factory in the house and wanted us to vacate.” He stated Niamat and Karamat quarreled with each other and the confrontation turned into a scuffle. Niamat was armed and his gun went off during the fight and hit Nazia. However, the court sentenced him to death after hearing the arguments.
