MANSHERA: A Mansehra police constable has been accused of raping the minor daughter of a female colleague.

A local court on Tuesday granted police three-day physical custody of the constable for further questioning.

T*, a women constable at the Komila police station, stated in her complaint that she had been living in the official quarters of the station for the last couple of years with her two minor children.

Since her children were familiar with the staff at the precinct, they would play within the station’s premises daily without any hesitation.

She alleged that on the afternoon of March 25, her four-year-old daughter was playing near the police control room when Constable AZ*, who was posted in the control room, dragged the girl inside and raped her.

When policemen on duty nearby heard the cries of the girl, they rushed to rescue her. Constable Zada was also apprehended.

The girl was taken to the Komila Rural Health Centre (RHC) where a medical examination confirmed that the minor had been raped.

She was later admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Police meanwhile, registered a case against the constable under sections 376,511 of the PPC and section 50 of the Child Protection Act.

He was produced before a judicial magistrate on Monday who granted police his three days remand.

Police have started an investigation into the matter with the suspect expected to be produced before the court again on Wednesday, police said.
