KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that former Pakistani ambassador to the United States, Hussain Haqqani, is the chief adviser of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain.

This was stated by PTI Deputy Secretary-General Imran Ismail, who was addressing a press conference at Insaf House on Monday along with the party's Karachi President Firdous Shamim Naqvi.

Ismail said that PTI's stance on MQM and Altaf Hussain is very clear but being a popular party of Pakistan, there was still a need to again condemn the anti-Pakistan remarks given by Altaf.

"[Altaf's remarks] are a disgrace to the Urdu-speaking community and disrespectful to the sacrifices made by us and our ancestors, Ismail said.

Explaining what he said earlier about the nexus between Haqqani and Hussain, Ismail said that Haqqani was taking his pay from Pakistan but was working with anti-Pakistan international powers, which Ismail termed as a 'selling of your motherland'.

Ismail also mentioned that Altaf's anti-Pakistan speech on August 22, 2016 was also delivered on the advice of Haqqani and the nexus between them is now clear.

Demanding action against Altaf and Haqqani, Ismail said that Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar has remained silent over the corruption and terrorism in the country, including the corruption of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. "He [Nisar] should at least take action against anti-Pakistan forces and expose the face of anti-Pakistan people," Ismail said.

"Nisar is only a blackmailer and instead of taking action, he just keeps warning of having proof against many people, including Altaf Hussain. However, if he is serious about taking action against Altaf, then he should come forward and produce the evidence against him," Ismail said.

Sharjeel Memon's protocol
Responding to a question about Sharjeel Memon, Ismail said that earlier, they were told by the Sindh Rangers that Rs2 billion was recovered from Memon's house and now, the same Rangers personnel are guarding Memon and providing him protocol.

"We ask the Rangers DG that if Memon was a criminal, then how come Rangers are providing protocol to a criminal?" Ismail questioned.
