Committee: CADD urged to implement panel’s recommendations
CDA chairman held in breach of privilege of two committees, upper house
ISLAMABAD:
A panel of Senators has asked the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) to implement its recommendations regarding land for National Agriculture Council (NARC).
The Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedures and Privileges met at the Parliament Lodge with Senator Jehanzeb Jamaldini in the chair on Wednesday and discussed issues pertaining to NARC’s land. It also discussed a privilege motion, which had been moved by Senator Syed Muzaffar Shah - the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research, regarding a breach of privilege by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman.
The food security committee had asked CDA to reverse its decision to cancel the lease of 1,400 acres of land meant for NARC and to stop building a housing scheme on it.
Moreover, the Senate also adopted a report of the committee on the matter. Hence the matter stood as a breach of privilege of both the committees and the Upper House by the CDA chairman for not implementing recommendations of the committee. Earlier in January, the committee had directed CDA, working under CADD, to submit within a month its reply on why it had decided to cancel the lease of land meant for NARC and whether the civic agency would withdraw the summary.
CADD Secretary Nargis Ghaloo told the committee that CDA, through CADD ministry, had already sent a summary to the Cabinet for a decision.
She had sought a month’s time to implement the committee’s recommendations.
At this, the committee had unanimously approved the CADD secretary’s request. On Wednesday, the committee also discussed a privilege motion moved by Senator Farhatullah Babar against the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for providing incorrect replies to the Senate.
The chief aviation body had been asked why salaries of some employees had been stopped and some other matters. CAA Secretary told the committee that an inquiry was being conducted by CAA against the officials who had furnished incorrect information to the Upper House.
At this, the committee disposed of the issue. Moreover, the committee, after getting a positive response from planning commission secretary, also disposed of the issue of Senator Sardar Azam Khan. The committee was told that action was being taken against officials who did not provide the requisite required information to Senator Azam Khan.
