Construction, agriculture: ‘Great opportunities for Pakistani investors in Paraguay’

Paraguay wants to strengthen relations with Pakistan in commerce, trade and culture.

ISLAMABAD:

Paraguay wants to strengthen relations with Pakistan in commerce, trade and culture. “Paraguay has great opportunities for Pakistani public and private investors in construction and agriculture sectors,” said Paraguayan Ambassador Ausberto Rodriguez Java.

Talking to The Express Tribune here on Tuesday, the ambassador said his country is keen on entering into an agreement with Pakistan on exchange of commercial and edible goods.

He described his visit to Pakistan “very encouraging” and invited investors to visit Paraguay, saying there are great opportunities for them to invest in the country.

Paraguay is rich in the field of wheat, animal feed, and oilseeds and wood. The envoy said his country was once rich in the field of cotton too but now needs foreign investors to restore the lost era. He said Pakistan has good expertise in this sector and both countries could benefit if investors turn to cotton in Paraguay.

The ambassador added there were also investment opportunities in construction, especially highways. Such projects could provide “massive” job opportunities to Pakistanis, he added.

Paraguay’s capital is in the heart of South America, he said, and could serve as a gateway to South America for Pakistan. The Paraguayan government is ready to sign an agreement with Pakistan International Airlines to start direct flights between the two countries, which will help investors in their travel, the ambassador said.

Ambassador Rodriguez Java praised Pakistan’s efforts in its war against terrorism and said the country had the capacity to defeat the insurgents.
