ISLAMABAD: The Establishment Division has requested the Interior Division to transfer Islamabad Police Inspector General Tariq Yasin to the Punjab.

The letter, written a few days ago but which surfaced only on Wednesday, came after a request was filed by the Punjab government.

“The services of Tariq Masood Yasin, presently serving as Inspector General Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, under Interior Division, have been requisitioned by the government of the Punjab,” the letter read.

It added that the Interior division had been requested to “spare the services of the officer or otherwise.” The request is seen by some as a move to install Yasin as the next IGP of Punjab. Recently promoted to basic pay scale (BPS) 21, Yasin had taken over as Islamabad’s top cop over a year ago.

During his tenure, he had set up the safe city project. Moreover, to enhance the police’s image, he had adopted a host of people-friendly measures including the creation of Facebook pages and Whatsapp groups for police stations in the capital.
