Bahawalpur DC inaugurates tree plantation drive

At least 1,000 saplings were planted by officials and students

BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Rana Muhammad Saleem Afzal inaugurated tree plantation campaign by planting Conocarpus plant at Dera Bakha on Sunday. During the inaugural ceremony, at least 1,000 saplings were planted by officials and students.

On the occasion, the deputy commissioner said tree plantation was vital to mitigate the repercussions of environmental pollution and to protect eco system for maintaining decent and healthy environment.

He added the plants also enhanced the aesthetic profile of the landscape which warrants maximum active participation both of the forest and other government departments.

Divisional Forest Officer Shahid Hameed informed the DC they planned to plant around 0.4 million saplings and plants during the annual Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2017 in the district.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner also inaugurated the census and house enumeration campaign in Bahawalpur.

While speaking on the occasion, he said cooperation of the people was vital in ensuring the targets of census and house enumeration campaign.

He pointed out, “A person may face a fine of Rs50,000 along with imprisonment for providing inaccurate and wrong information during the census and house counting process.
