Dr Muhammad Javeed from Muzaffargarh and Dr Hafiz Muhammad Adnan from Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, both graduates of King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Lahore, went missing between March 14 and 15. Both men were reportedly returning home to the new hostels at KEMU after completing their shifts at Mayo.
Their families learnt of their disappearance after the King Edward Medical University office contacted them on Friday to ask about the fact that the doctors had not shown up for work.
Three teachers kidnapped from Awaran
A kidnapping case regarding the disappearance of Dr Adnan was lodged after his brother Dr Jam Muhammad Rizwan approached the Gawalmandi police and Dr Javeed’s family have also filed a complaint with the police requesting the same.
Dr Rizwan said no one in the family has heard from his brother since March 14. He added that both of his brother’s cell phone numbers were unresponsive.
He said that no progress has been made by police thus far.
Dr Javeed’s brother Muhammad Khursheed said his father received a call from KEMU on Friday regarding his missing brother. He added that both the missing men worked as doctors and the government should act fast to quickly recover them.
Meanwhile, police sources said the two doctors are being held by the Counter Terrorism Department.
KEMU Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Asad Aslam confirmed to The Express Tribune that the families of both doctors were informed of their absences from work three days back.
He said that the HOD of the PEED wards, where both were doing house jobs, was ordered to compile a report regarding the two doctors. He added that the reported was forwarded to the police on Saturday. He said the hospital administration has been in touch with the police to try to safely recover both doctors.
