Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati's set was vandalised and burnt down by an angry mob recently, near Masai plateau, located about 20 kms from Kolhapur City. This was the second time the film's shooting was stalled, reported Pinkvilla.
Earlier today, Shobha Sant, CEO Bhansali Productions, confirmed the news saying, "A few people entered and had put the set on fire in the early morning hours. The main cast wasn’t present at that time. However, our costumes are completely damaged.” She also added that an investigation is on and an official complaint will be filed soon.
A few people from the film fraternity and politicians condemned the incident. Joining them is the Phillauri actor Anushka Sharma. Reacting sharply to the act of vandalism, Anushka said, "This is unacceptable. Nobody, no sensible person, not just from the film industry but outside as well, will accept this. Causing such kind of damage to someone's personal property is not acceptable."
Earlier this year in January, Padmavati's shooting at Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur was disrupted after members of Karni Sena attacked the film-maker and torched the set. The members alleged that the film-maker has been distorting the facts in his upcoming historical drama. However, after a meeting held between the two, Sanjay assured them that nothing of that sort is happening.
Padmavati stars Shahid Kapoor as Raja Rawal Ratan Singh, Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati and her rumoured beau Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. The movie is expected to release by year's end.
