RAWALPINDI:
The popular three-wheeler has been banned from plying on six roads that fall within the jurisdiction of cantonment boards.

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) acting on the recommendation of Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has banned plying rickshaws on six thoroughfares in Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and the Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB). These roads include Mall Road, Bank Road, Kashmir Road, Adamjee Road, RA Bazaar Road and Airport Road.


According to the route permit issuing authority there are 17,280 registered auto rickshaws in Rawalpindi at present. Moreover there were around 3,500 unregistered motorcycle rickshaws commonly known as Qinqis in the city.

Officials of CTP told Roznama Express that the rickshaw drivers held a protest and blocked Murree Road and the Mall Road after which many three-wheelers were impounded.
